Two bluebirds still in nest

It is day 18 and there is still 2 chicks in the nest. The other 3 left yesterday. I tried to watch them after they left, with no luck. The adults will take mealworms and disappear into the trees.

2 week old bluebirds

This is the male feeding the chicks. There is no longer any room inside for him with 5 large chicks. As you can see the roof of the nestbox is raised about an inch with plexiglas for the camera to get light. The camera (installed under the roof.) transmits a wireless signal back to the house, about 600 ft.

I happened to snap a picture of this bluebird in flight

This photo is the chicks almost ready to leave the nest.

Hungry chicks. They are 5 days old. Sorry about picture quality, its the best I can do at the moment.

Female looking for mealworms. I have been raising and feeding mealworms, and can barely keep up with demand.

Male protesting that the bowl is empty.

Bluebird eggs are hatching

I am having a problem, this editer seems to want to underline my text. O well I will continue. The eggs have started hatching. One egg hatched yesterday and this morning 2 more have hatched.

This is a picture of the male feeding the chicks. See the open mouth to the right.

This is a video of the female feeding chicks. Note, the female is not as bright blue as male.

Bluebird nest

We have a bluebird box with an installed camera. I should have started these postings earlier as we watched the female bluebird lay about an egg per day until May 22 with four. She probably started setting on the eggs about May 23 after the fifth egg. We were gone for several days so could not tell. We think that the eggs will hatch this coming weekend (Jun 5)or sooner. Will try to keep you posted.
